JAMMU, Aug 9: In yet another road accident due to negligent driving and bad condition of road, four children among 10 passengers were killed and 15 others got seriously injured when a Tempo Traveler rolled down in a deep gorge at Jamslan in Mahore tehsil of Reasi district, this morning.

Ten injured passengers have been shifted to Government Medical College & Hospital in view of their critical condition and five others are being provided treatment at District Hospital Reasi.
Eight persons died on the spot and two others, including an infant of three-months, succumbed to their injuries while being shifted to Sub-District Hospital Mahore for the treatment.
The Tempo, bearing registration number JK02AG-0730, was on way from Budhan to Mahore when it rolled down around 300 feet deep Chichi Nallah. The accident took place around 8.40 a.m, this morning near Jamslan bridge.
Negligent driving, overloading and poor condition of the road are stated to be cause of accident as driver lost control on the over- speeding vehicle while trying to avoid a pothole. The 16-seater Tempo, carrying 25 passengers, skidded off the road in attempt to avoid pothole and rolled down into deep gorge, the witnesses said.
According to SSP Reasi, Tahir Sajad Bhat, driver of the Tempo fled the scene after the accident and Police has launched a hunt to nab him besides registering a case in this connection.
Pertinent to mention that condition of roads in Mahore and adjoining areas are in worse condition and even slight negligence in driving is fraught with danger of playing with lives of passengers.
Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and Governor N N Vohra have expressed grief over loss of lives in the tragic road accident.
On the direction of Chief Minister, several injured passengers were airlifted to Jammu for specialized treatment. She also directed the Divisional Administration Jammu and the District Administration Reasi to intensify the rescue operations at the spot and ensure best possible treatment to the other injured.
In a message, Governor N N Vohra expressed deep concern over recurring road accidents and re-iterated that every concerned agency should be held accountable for strictly enforcing regulations regarding the age and worthiness of the passenger carrying vehicles, condemnation of unfit vehicles, overloading, over-speeding, fitness and past record of drivers to ply passenger vehicles on notified hill roads, and punitive summary fines to be paid by the offenders. He noted that no unqualified/ unlicensed person must be allowed to drive any personal, transport or commercial vehicle.
The deceased were identified as Javid Ahmed (26), son of Abdul Rashid of Chachi Jamslan, Wazira Begum (35), wife of Mohd. Shareef of Chachi Jamslan, Charan Singh (22), son of Faqir Chand of Budhan, Liyaqat Ali (20), son of Abdul Hamid of Budhan, Mohd Arshad (19), son of Abdul Rashid of Budhan, Mohd Asif (14), son of Ali Mohd of Jamslan Nagar, Hamit Ali (12), son of Manzoor Hussain of Jamslan Nagar, Mubashir Ahmed (5 years), son of Bhar Din of Sildhar , three month old son of Mohinder Singh and Bhar Din (27), son of Abdul Gani of Sildhar.
Among the injured, Arjun Singh (18), son of Mast Ram of Budhan and Kavita Devi (22), wife of Wipan Singh of Bathopuie, were airlifted from SDH Mahore to GMC Hospital Jammu while eight others were first shifted to District Hospital Reasi and then to GMC Jammu via road. They were identified as Mohd Sharif (25), son of Gulla of Jamslan, Neelam Devi (24), wife of Mohinder Singh, of Shajroo Sooli, Ayush Rajput (03), son of Mohinder Singh of Shajroo Sooli, Masrat Naz (14), daughter of Ali Mohd of Chaklass, Riyaz Ahmad (22), son of Ali Mohd of Chaklass, Altaf Ahmed (21), son of Abdul Sattar of Budhan, and Muskan Ali (14 months), son of Mohd Sharief of Jamslan and Raj Kumari (4), wife of Parshotam Singh of Budhan.
Those admitted at Sub District Hospital Reasi, were identified Parshotam Singh (42), son of Bishan Singh of Budhan, Basir Ahmed (60), son of Azam of Chaklas, Mohd Iqbal (35), son of Gulam Qadir of Chaklass, Gulzar Ahmad (40), son of Noor Din of Budhan and Ranjit Singh (20), son of Hukam Singh of Budhan.
