JAMMU, Dec 17: In connection with the National Lok Adalat programme, Lok Adalats that were held throughout the State on December 6, 2014, under the patronage of Justice M. M. Kumar, Chief Justice, High Court of J&K and Patron-in-Chief J&K State Legal Services Authority and under the guidance of Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir, Executive Chairman J&K State Legal Services Authority, settled 1, 16,423 cases of different nature.
The cases like MACT, Civil Suits, Criminal Compoundable cases, Bank cases, Petty Criminal matters, Flood Disaster cases, Consumer Court cases, Electricity and water bills, Food Adulteration cases, Forest cases, Gambling Act cases, cases under Guardianship Act and Hindu Marriage Act, land acquisition cases, MGNREGA cases, Municipal cases, Labour Law cases, and other Misc. cases of civil and criminal nature were disposed-off by amicable settlement.
Besides, awarding over Rs.20 crore as compensation in MACT cases, over Rs 58 crore were recovered in Bank cases in the Lok Adalats. Similarly, Rs 9.62 crore were realized as fine in Petty Criminal matters while Rs. 4.33 crore were given as compensation in land acquisition cases.
In addition, Rs 4.94 crore was given as compensation in MGNREGA cases while Rs 75000 was recovered as arrears in a pension case. Rs 6.33 crore was also given as compensation in flood disaster cases besides awarding Rs. 11.47 Lakh as maintenance in cases under Section 488 of Cr. P.C.
