Mendhar Shaheedi Diwas Volleyball tournament gets underway

MENDHAR, Apr 23: A Volleyball tournament namely Mendhar Shaheedi Diwas Volleyball tournament got underway at the OP Hill Stadium, here today.
The Tournament is being organized by the Army as a run up to the Mendhar Shaheedi Diwas which is celebrated every year in April.
The main objective of the tournament is to commemorate the martyrdom of the brave citizens of Mendhar Tehsil, who laid down their lives supporting the Army during the 1965 Indo-Pak War.
The tournament got underway in the presence of Army officials, civil dignitaries, school children and a large number of local youths.
The event has received an overwhelming response from the youth of Mendhar and adjoining areas, with a total of 8 teams comprising 80 players participating in the event.
The tournament will be played on a knock out basis culminating with the final on April 25, 2018 coinciding with a Know Your Army Mela, at the OP Hill Stadium.
The event has provided a platform to the local youth to showcase their skills in front of their home crowd.
Earlier in the inaugural match, Chattral Club defeated Friends Club Harni in a close contest by three goals to two (3-2).
The players of both team showed extraordinary skills in a well fought game, however Chattral Club players held their nerves in the crunch situation and emerged victorious.
