JAMMU, Apr 18: J&K’s ace chess player and Commonwealth Gold Medalist, Meenal Gupta showed serenity, class, composure and promise to excel in the recently concluded International Open Chess event at CHA – AM Beach Resort, Bangkok in Thailand.
Around 50 countries all over the world participated in the event including a galaxy of top Grandmasters. Meenal Gupta of J&K got 2nd position in Under-18 age category girls. She won 4 matches and drew 2 and lost 3. All her matches were against rated players above 2000+ rating mark from Germany, Denmark, China, Indonesia and Thailand.
With this wonderful performance at International Grandmaster level, her International rating is increasing by 156 points.
Now she will join the elite group of 1900+ rating women.
New rating will be published by World Chess Federation on May 1, 2017.
