JAMMU, Jan 27: Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti, who is also the President of Jammu and Kashmir State Sports Council, has approved conferment of Sher-I-Kashmir Sports Awards for outstanding sportspersons and Parshuram Awards for best coaches for the period of 2013-14, 2015-15 and 2015-16.
Having words of appreciation for the players and coaches, the Chief Minister today tweeted, “Congratulations to this year’s recipients of the Sher-I-Kashmir Sports & Parshuram Awards”.
Your hard work, perseverance & optimism will serve as a beacon for the youth of J&K,” tweeted Mufti. The awards were announced in the disciplines of Wushu, Boxing, Fencing, Gymnastics, Roll Ball, Skiing, Judo, Mountaineering, Powerlifting, Body Building, Chess and other disciplines.
The applications were invited through open advertisement and in pursuance to the advertisement notifications, which were scrutinized by the award committee of the sports Council for further recommendation.
Pertinently, 10 outstanding sportspersons and 3 best coaches /instructors have already been selected for grant of Sher-I-Kashmir award and Parshuram Award for the period of 2012-13 as per pre revised rules by the then award committee.
The Sher-I-Kashmir Awards for outstanding sportspersons for the period of 2013-14 have been conferred on Zakariya Yaseen Bhat S/o Mohammad Yaseen Bhat R/o Bemina Srinagar in the discipline of Thang Ta, Syed Haniya Zehra D/o Syed Gowhar Hussain R/o Lal Bazar Srinagarin the discipline of Skiing, Nittin Kumar Sharma S/o Lt Puran Chand R/o Talab Digiana Jammu in the discipline of Handball, Surya Bhanu Pratab Singh S/o Balkar Singh R/o Roop Nagar Jammu in the discipline of Wushu, Khalida Banu D/o Sunaullah Ganie R/o Lolab Kupwara in the discipline of Wushu, Jugraaj Singh S/o Daljeet Singh R/o Karan Nagar Jammu in the discipline of Roller Skating, Parul Mehra S/o Somnath Mehra R/o Eidgah Road Jammu in the discipline of Gymnastics, Ravia Verma D/o Ravi Kumar R/o Gurah Bakshi Nagar Jammu in the discipline of Gymnastics, Shikha Bhau D/o Sukhdev Singh R/o Pallanvalla Khour Jammu in the discipline of Judo, Ram Singh Slathia S/o Kuldeep Singh R/o Mandibagh Samba in the discipline of Mountaineering, Zahoor Ahmad Latoo S/o Mohammad Abbas Latoo R/o Rainawari Srinagar in the discipline of Kayaking and Canoeing, Rakesh Kumar S/o Lt Krishan Lal R/o Janipur Jammu in the discipline of Powerlifting and Vishal Thapar S/o Premnath Thapar R/o Trikuta Nagar Jammu in the discipline of Fencing.
All these awardees have been honoured with a medal/ Satuette, scroll of Honor/ citation, ceremonial Dress and cash award of Rs 51,000.

Parshuram Awards for the best Coach for period of 2012-13 have been conferred on SP Singh S/o Late Bakshish Singh R/o Sant Market Jammu with an award of Rs 20,000 and a medal as Gymnastic Coach, Shotu Lal S/o Daya Ram Sharma R/o Billawar Kathua with an award of Rs 20,000 and a medal as Fencing Instructor and Mohd Iqbal S/o Gh Mohammad R/o Malpora Jamia Masjid Srinagar with an award of Rs 20,000 and a medal as Thang Ta Instructor.
