JAMMU, Nov 24: Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) Chowdhary Zulfkar Ali today conducted surprise market inspection in various areas of Jammu city.
During the inspection, the Minister was accompanied by team of officers including Director FCS&CA, G S Chib, Deputy Controller, Legal Metrology Department, Manoj Prabhakar, Assistant Directors, along with other concerned officers.
The Minister initiated the inspection process by visiting a furnishing mall and a private hotel around Warehouse area. He instructed the owners of the mall and manager of hotel to ensure that consumers are not over-charged.
Stressing on maintaining reasonability of rates, the Minister said that earning profits is not a crime. However, they should not be exorbitant. The rates should be justifiable and consumers should not feel that they are getting fleeced under the pretext of business, he said.
The Minister inspected the functioning of Ration Depot Numbers 175 and 168 at Digiana. He checked stock and issue register, quality of rice, wheat and sugar.
He also had an interaction with the people at various places to get first hand information and feedback regarding the functioning of the depots. The people raised various issues, which the Minister assured would be addressed at the earliest.
Earlier, the Minister also visited Warehouse to check the status of ongoing construction work of new building for Directorate of FCS&CA. The Minister was informed that from the past couple of days due to some technical reasons the work is on hold.
