RAJOURI, Dec 12: Former minister and BJP vice president for JKUT, Chowdhary Zulfkar Ali on Friday visited several remote and hilly areas of Rajouri district, including Khawas, Udhaan, Gundha, Delhari and Gundi, to assess local issues and interact with residents.
During his tour, locals raised multiple grievances such as non-payment of flood relief claims, pending compensation related to the Badhal tragedy, delayed MGNREGA wages and material payments, poor progress under Jal Jeevan Mission, inadequate road connectivity, and shortage of staff in schools and Health Centres.
Zulfkar expressed concern over what he termed the administrative neglect of the region over the past seven years, alleging that mis-governance and the failure of local leadership-both in the Assembly and District Councils-had added to people’s hardships. He said that despite the Centre releasing substantial funds for public welfare under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the benefits were not reaching the ground due to rising corruption and poor delivery mechanisms.
Pointing out that the area is largely tribal and mountainous, he criticised the ineffective implementation of the Forest Rights Act (FRA) and demanded its time-bound enforcement. He also urged the administration to fast-track SRO-43 cases as per the timelines issued by the Lieutenant Governor and ensure immediate disbursement of compensation to families affected by recent floods.
The BJP leader further demanded the establishment of a Degree College and an ERMS at Khawas, along with the appointment of adequate staff in Educational and Health institutions. He also called for proper on-ground execution of the Jal Jeevan Mission.
He was accompanied by Mandal president Khawas, Chain Singh, Mandal president Koteranka Abdul Rahman, Baldev Singh, Wazir Singh, Sham Lal, Shankar Das, Mohd Farooq, Alam Din and others.
