JAMMU, Nov 26: The members of the Zonal Railway Users Consultative Committee (ZRUCC) today undertook an extensive study tour of the newly constructed Chenab and Anji Khad Rail Bridges in the Jammu Division of Northern Railway.
The visit aimed to assess technological innovations, examine infrastructure development and gain first hand insight into the engineering complexities behind these iconic structures.
During the tour, officials highlighted the remarkable engineering features of both bridges, which are part of the ambitious Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) Project.
The Chenab Bridge, constructed over the Chenab River, is an engineering marvel, standing 35 meters taller than the Eiffel Tower.
Designed with high safety parameters, it can withstand earthquakes of magnitude 8 and endure winds up to 266 km/h.
The Anji Khad Bridge, India’s first cable-stayed rail bridge, is another technological milestone.
Built on challenging terrain, the structure rises to a height of approximately 331 meters, significantly enhancing connectivity in the region.
Speaking on the occasion, officials said the study tour provided ZRUCC members with valuable insights into the technical, operational and logistical challenges involved in these mega projects.
The knowledge gained will help in better planning and execution of future railway infrastructure initiatives aimed at improving services and addressing user needs.
The visit marks an important step toward strengthening the development of modern, resilient and efficient railway networks in Jammu and Kashmir.
The delegation was accompanied by the additional General Manager, deputy General Manager (General), Divisional Railway Manager Vivek Kumar, senior Divisional Commercial Manager Uchit Singhal and other senior officials of the division.
