ZPHQ, IIT Jammu organise hackathon event

JAMMU, Nov 14: The Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Jammu Zone, Anand Jain, today praised the collaborative efforts of the Zonal Police Headquarters (ZPHQ) Jammu and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jammu, following the successful completion of a high-profile Hackathon event aimed at strengthening law enforcement through technological innovation.
The Hackathon, focused on cyber security and cyber hygiene, brought together police personnel and students to develop practical solutions for the unique challenges faced by the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
These challenges include ensuring public safety, maintaining law and order, and combating emerging threats like cybercrime and terrorism.
In his address, ADGP Anand Jain emphasized the growing importance of technology in modern policing, particularly advancements in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and cyber security.
He noted that these technologies can significantly improve the efficiency and effectiveness of law enforcement agencies, especially in a region like Jammu and Kashmir, which faces distinct security challenges due to its geopolitical context.
“The integration of cutting-edge technology into policing is not just an option, but a necessity,” Jain said.
“This Hackathon serves as a platform for young innovators to present solutions that can make a meaningful impact on the security landscape of Jammu and Kashmir and beyond.”
The ADGP encouraged the students to think creatively and boldly, stressing that their innovations could have long-term benefits for public safety and law enforcement.
He also praised the collaborative efforts of IIT Jammu and the Jammu and Kashmir Police for creating a space where technology and public security intersect.
The event was attended by senior officials including Col Virinder Singh (Retd), Registrar IIT Jammu; Abhay Sharma, Dean of Education and Outreach at IIT Jammu; Shiv Kumar Sharma, DIG Jammu-Kashmir Range; Joginder Singh, SSP Jammu, and other guests from both IIT Jammu and ZPHQ Jammu.
