Zero Tolerance For Anti-Nationals

The dismissal of two more Government employees in Jammu and Kashmir for their alleged involvement in terror activities sends a strong and unambiguous message: the Administration will not tolerate any betrayal of the nation, regardless of position or affiliation. The Lieutenant Governor’s decision to invoke Article 311(2)(c) of the Constitution underlines the urgency of uprooting terror networks operating under the garb of public service. The cases of Khurshid Ahmad Rather, a schoolteacher, and Siyad Ahmad Khan, an assistant stockman, expose the alarming extent to which terror outfits have penetrated state institutions. Investigations revealed that Rather, acting as an OGW for Lashkar-e-Toiba, facilitated arms and narcotics smuggling across the LoC-an operation critical to financing terrorism in the Valley. Khan’s role in smuggling arms and providing shelter to infiltrators further exemplifies this deep-rooted menace. Both were in constant touch with Pakistan-based handlers, highlighting the sophisticated nexus between terrorism and narcotics-a dual threat that compromises security and corrodes societal fabric.
The Government’s zero-tolerance policy against terror sympathisers is not new; over 70 employees have been dismissed in recent years. However, the increasing involvement of individuals from sensitive departments, including education and law enforcement, calls for heightened vigilance. When those entrusted with nurturing young minds or safeguarding the law turn collaborators of terror, the consequences are catastrophic. These dismissals are therefore not just punitive measures but preventive steps aimed at protecting the integrity of governance. This action is a stark reminder to all anti-national elements that no position guarantees immunity. Time and again, such measures reaffirm that security agencies are working overtime, meticulously tracking activities, and will eventually bring culprits to justice. The invocation of Article 311(2)(c), bypassing a regular inquiry in the interest of national security, reinforces the seriousness with which these threats are addressed.
Terrorism today is no longer a stand-alone challenge; it thrives on narcotics smuggling and organised networks. Crushing this nexus requires uncompromising action and systemic cleansing. The Government’s firm stand is both a deterrent and a reassurance-that the state is vigilant, proactive, and resolute in defending national integrity. Those who choose to betray their oath will face swift and decisive consequences.
