JAMMU, Mar 22: Various functions were organized by Kashmiri Pandit women today to mark the celebration of Zang Trai -the third Navratra. As a tradition on this day every year special programmes and social functions are held for women.
In this connection functions were held at Kashmiri Pandit Sabha Ambphalla, Bhagwaan Gopinathji Trust and Sharika Peeth Sanstha, Subash Nagar. The programme at KP Sabha was chaired by its president K K Khosa while Dr Meenakshi Kilam, Director Quality Assurance Jammu University was the chief guest.
Dr Anupama Koul conducted the proceedings. On the occasion a melodious bhajan recital was presented by Papu Raj and team which made the audience spell bound. The speakers expressed their dismay over the social evils prevalent in the society at present and Sabha was urged to launch a crusade for their eradication by way of organising seminars and group discussions with the community members.
In her address Dr Meenakshi Kilam gave a detailed spiritual and social genesis of Zang Trai. She said Zang Trai is the day of Chandarganta a married goddess. The day was celebrated as a women day by Kashmiri Pandits and perhaps the unique function in the world. She suggested that the women scholars, academicians, writers, scientists be honoured on this day.
Speaking on the occasion, G J Kampasi stressed upon change in the socio culture ethos of the community to make the youth conservant with age old traditions and other customs.
K K Khosa, in a brief address exhorted women of the community to participate in community affairs in a big way. He said Sabha is ready to help any one in distress.
Others who presented their views included Ashok Braroo, senior vice president, Shyama Handoo, Dr Anupuran Koul, Ashvani Koul, Subash Dhar and Ashok Khar. The vote of thanks was presented by S L Bagati.
