JAMMU, Mar 5: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Jammu East Assembly segment, Yudhvir Sethi, today voiced concerns over the growing drug abuse in Jammu and Kashmir during the ongoing Assembly session.
In a supplementary question, Sethi asked the Government about the effectiveness of public awareness campaigns aimed at educating people, especially the youth, about the dangers of drug addiction.
He also inquired about the availability of rehabilitation centers for those struggling with addiction and stressed the need for better support systems to aid recovery.
Sethi further questioned the Government’s efforts to engage the youth in positive activities, such as sports and vocational training, to prevent them from falling into the trap of drug abuse.
Highlighting the complex nature of the drug crisis, Sethi pointed out its impact on public health, social welfare, and the economy.
He also raised concerns about cross-border drug smuggling, which exacerbates the issue, given Jammu and Kashmir’s proximity to International Borders.
The MLA called for a coordinated approach involving law enforcement, community leaders, and educational institutions to tackle the issue.
He urged all stakeholders to work together to combat drug abuse and ensure a safer, drug-free future for the region.
Sethi concluded by urging immediate action from the Government to address the drug menace.
