JAMMU, Mar 7: Yuva Rajput Sabha (YRS)-J&K today organized a massive protest near the statue of Maharaja Hari Singh on main Tawi Bridge, expressing strong resentment over the derogatory remarks made by Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary, regarding Maharaja Hari Singh, the last ruler of the erstwhile state.
Thousands of YRS members actively participated in the protest, showing their strong disapproval of the Deputy CM’s comments. The protesting youth blocked the Tawi Bridge for several hours. They raised slogans against the Deputy CM and National Conference.
Speaking to media during the protest, Raghubir Singh (YRS chairman), stated that while Surinder Choudhary issued an apology for his remarks, the Sabha is adamant that such comments are completely unacceptable. He warned that any further attempts to tarnish the legacy of Maharaja Hari Singh or insult Dogra pride would not be tolerated, and leaders who make such remarks would face severe consequences.
Vikram Singh Vicky (YRS president), voiced his outrage, saying, “The ill-informed and inflammatory remarks made by Surinder Choudhary in the Assembly are absolutely unacceptable. Maharaja Hari Singh made monumental contributions to the State, such as declaring Urdu as the official language, implementing social, religious, and legal reforms, and building key institutions like banks, schools, hospitals, and courts that continue to benefit the people of Jammu & Kashmir. We must move beyond outdated political narratives that continue to divide the state.”
Rajan Singh Happy, ex-president of YRS, expressed his disappointment, stating, “J&K Government and its representatives should refrain from making such divisive and derogatory statements in the future as these remarks only serve to create unrest in an already sensitive region”. He said the Sabha is determined to protect the legacy of Maharaja Hari Singh and will not tolerate any efforts to undermine his reputation or the pride of the Dogra community.
