KATRA, Nov 17: Up in arms over the recent MBBS admissions at the newly established Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence (SMVDIME), a strong protest was held today by members of Yuva Rajput Sabha, Movement Kalki, Bajrang Dal and other Hindu organisations against the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB).
Protesters assembled outside the university premises and burnt the effigy of the Shrine Board, alleging discrimination in the admission and demanding the immediate scrapping of the current MBBS admission list.
They claimed that funds donated by Hindu devotees to the Shrine Board were being “used for the benefit of other communities,” which they termed as unacceptable.
The groups further alleged that the admission of a disproportionately high number of students from a particular community in the maiden batch has raised serious concerns about fairness and transparency.
The protesting organisations warned that if the admission list is not withdrawn, they will intensify their agitation and stage demonstrations outside the Raj Bhawan. They urged the administration to intervene and ensure benifits to Hindu community members.
The protesters dispersed off after submitting a memorandum to the authorities. However, they warned to intensify the protests if their demand is not considered.
