JAMMU, Mar 18: The Yuva Rajput Sabha (YRS) today raised concerns over key issues including the demand for rollback of the UGC Act, alleged misuse of the SC/ST Act, and what it termed as discrimination against the general category, asserting the need for equality and social harmony.
The issues were highlighted during a press conference held at the Press Club Jammu, where YRS president Mandeep Singh Rimpy, accompanied by former president Vikram Singh Vicky, Rajan Singh Happy and other core committee members, addressed the media.
Speaking on the occasion, Rimpy said that the general category contributes equally to the nation’s development and should not feel marginalized. He stressed that true progress of the country depends on an evolved mindset that promotes equality and unity across all sections of society.
Referring to the ongoing legal developments, he noted that the Supreme Court of India has stayed the matter related to the UGC provisions and fixed March 19 for the next hearing. He criticized recent protests by certain groups, stating that taking to the streets and raising slogans against the general category while the matter is sub-judice was inappropriate.
The YRS leadership also expressed concern over what it described as increasing instances of false FIRs being filed under the SC/ST Act, claiming that such misuse fosters social discord and mistrust among communities. They argued that laws which create divisions rather than promote harmony could weaken the social fabric.
Rimpy further stated that while policies like reservation were introduced after independence to ensure equality, present circumstances require re-evaluation to maintain fairness for all sections. He cautioned that certain regulations, particularly those affecting higher education, could adversely impact students from the general category.
The organization reiterated its faith in the judiciary and called for measures to ensure equality, social harmony and inclusive development.
