JAMMU, Mar 6: Yuva Rajput Sabha (YRS) has expressed deep anger over the alleged derogatory remarks made by Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary of the National Conference Government in Jammu and Kashmir, demanding an immediate apology. The organization warned of serious consequences if the demand is not met promptly.
Addressing a press conference near the Maharaja Hari Singh statue at Bikram Chowk (Tawi Bridge), YRS leaders, including Chairman Raghuvir Singh and president Vikram Singh Vicky, condemned Choudhary’s comments as an insult to the legacy of Maharaja Hari Singh. The gathering also saw the presence of former president Rajan Singh Happy, senior vice president Mukesh Singh, and other prominent members like Mandeep Singh, Vishal Singh Rakwal and Rajeev Jamwal.
Raghuvir Singh stated that the people of J&K, especially the Dogra community, hold Maharaja Hari Singh in high regard and that any statements tarnishing his legacy are unacceptable. He emphasized that Choudhary’s remarks were a direct attack on the sentiments of the people, causing widespread resentment.
Vikram Singh Vicky criticized the contradiction in the NC’s stance, pointing out that while the party claims to defend Article 370, 35-A, and J&K ‘s Statehood—rights associated with Maharaja Hari Singh—Choudhary’s reference to his rule as a “dictatorship” was unacceptable. He declared that Maharaja Hari Singh is a symbol of pride for the Dogra community and warned that such disrespect would not be tolerated.
Former YRS president Rajan Singh suggested that the remarks were a reaction to the declaration of holidays to honor Maharaja Hari Singh’s birth anniversary on September 23 and Accession Day on October 26.
YRS announced a massive protest on March 7, at Maharaja Hari Singh statue near Bikram Chowk Bridge, urging the NC to take action against Choudhary and demanding a public apology to respect the sentiments of the Dogra community.
