JAMMU, Dec 14: Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Sangharsh Samiti has announced that its Youth and Women wings will play a decisive role in intensifying the ongoing agitation against the decision to grant MBBS admissions to students from a single community at the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence.
The announcement was made by Colonel Sukhbir Singh Mankotia, convener of the Sangharsh Samiti, after he presided over a joint meeting of the Youth and Women wings at Geeta Bhawan, here today. A large number of young men and women supporting the movement participated in the meeting, which was also addressed by Parshotam Dadichi, president of Shri Sanatan Dharma Sabha, Jammu and Kashmir. Senior committee member Akshay and other office-bearers were also present.
During the meeting, it was unanimously decided to entrust Kartik Soodan with the responsibility of leading the Youth wing, while Shilpi Verma was assigned the charge of the Women wing. The cadre of both wings was asked to prepare to accelerate the movement in the coming days.
Addressing the gathering, Colonel Mankotia said that the agitation would continue until the decision on MBBS admissions is revoked. He asserted that the Shrine Board and the Institute’s management must respect the sentiments of the Sanatan society, which holds deep faith in Maa Vaishno Devi.
He warned that the offerings made by crores of devotees should not be misused under any circumstances and urged the authorities to correct what he termed a “wrong decision” at the earliest. He maintained that the Samiti has so far exercised restraint and discipline, but any escalation of the movement would be the responsibility of the Shrine Board.
Parshotam Dadichi cautioned that if the decision is not reversed, it could set an adverse precedent for future generations, prompting the Samiti to pursue the agitation in a phased and sustained manner.
