Youth dies due to drowning

RAJOURI, Oct 4: In tragic incident in Darhal area on Saturday, a 19-year-old youth lost his life due to drowning in the local river near Sain Ganji Ziarat.
The deceased has been identified as Avtar Ahmed, son of Mohd Jameel, resident of Darhal Margan. As per reports, the youth was returning home after attending the annual Urs at Sain Ganji Badshah’s Ziarat. He drowned while attempting to cross the river.
Locals alleged that extensive illegal mining activities in the Darhal river have created hazardous depressions in the riverbed, turning the river into a “death trap” for those who have to cross it. Despite repeated appeals from residents to the authorities to curb illegal mining, no substantial action has been taken, they claimed.
The body was recovered and shifted to GMC Rajouri by police for postmortem. After necessary formalities, the body was handed over to the family for last rites.
The tragic incident has sparked resentment among locals, who once again urged authorities to take strict action against illegal mining in the Darhal river to prevent further loss of innocent lives.
