SRINAGAR, Dec 11:
Terming the youth main agents of change, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti claimed that if the leading political bigwigs from the National Conference (NC) and other parties have lost against her party candidates in the first three phases of elections in Jammu and Kashmir it is all because the youth have decided to change their own fate and of the State.
“This election has turned out to be historic in every sense: First, the people came out overwhelmingly to cast their vote in first three phases of polls in spite heavy odds. Second, the National Conference is up for a worst ever defeat. And third, the big guns and leading lights of the state politics have lost to the PDP. The credit for all this goes to our youth who have been able to persuade even the elders of the need for change,” she said while addressing various roadside meetings in Kokernag assembly constituency of South Kashmir.
Referring to the Chief Minister’s assertions that NC is heading for a historic win in this election, Mehbooba said the election has truly achieved a historic significance as the NC is heading for its worst ever defeat under the leadership of Omar Abdullah.
The PDP president said nobody could stand up before the pro-PDP wave that swept the state and it is equally encouraging that the State politics has been cleansed to a great extent of the politicians who have nothing to their credit except loot, corruption and blood of innocents on their hands.
Ms Mehbooba said the people of the State have developed belief and faith in the visionary agenda of the PDP and have confidence in the leadership of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and that is why they are identifying themselves with us.
She said the people particularly youth are satisfied with the performance of the PDP during its brief stint in the Government in which they felt a sense of relief and saw a new wave of infrastructural and economic development happening in the State.
But, she added, during last six years under the Omar Abdullah Government they found a clear contrast. Accusing the Congress of patronising corruption and loot in Jammu and Kashmir, Ms Mehbooba said the sitting MLA of Kokernag who is also minister in the outgoing Omar Abdullah Government was sacked from the previous coalition Government and was divested of his education portfolio in the present Government because of the proven serious charges of corruption and other malpractices against him and, now the same tainted person has been given the mandate of the party, she added.
