UDHAMPUR, July 13: Upset over his family’s stiff resistance to his love affair with a local girl and frequent taunts, a youth attempted self immolation at Gandala, here this morning and sustained critical burn injuries.
According to police reports, Raman Sharma (25), son of Radha Krishna, resident of Laddan Power House, sprinkled petrol on his body and set himself on fire in the wee hours today.
On being informed by some locals to Police Station Udhampur, SHO, Raghuvir Singh rushed to the spot and shifted the critically injured youth to District Hospital Udhampur where doctors referred him to GMC Jammu in view of his serious condition.
Doctors said that Raman has received over 80 percent burn injuries and his condition was critical.
Preliminary investigations revealed that before attempting suicide, Raman recorded a video message on his mobile phone conveying that he was going to end his life and the girl he was in love should not be blamed for the same.
Police have registered a case in this connection and started further investigation.
