Youth assaulted in Akhnoor, family appeals DGP for justice

JAMMU, June 13: Family members of a youth, who was grievously injured after being attacked by another individual in Ashram Colony area of Akhnoor recently, today appealed the Director General of Police (DGP) for justice.
However, police have registered an FIR under the relevant sections of the law against the accused, he is still at large, raising apprehensions among the family members of the victim that he might attack them back.
Addressing media persons at Akhnoor, victim Vijay Sharma’s father Lochan Chand said his son was attacked by accused Pawan Kumar with a baseball bat without any provocation, resulting in severe fractures in his leg and fingers.
Lochan Chand alleged that despite the seriousness of the attack, police have neither arrested nor questioned the accused.
He expressed concern for the safety of his family and claimed that repeated pleas to the police have yielded no concrete action, only verbal assurances.
The family has now appealed to the Director General of Police, Jammu and Kashmir, to intervene in the matter and ensure that the accused is arrested and given strict punishment.
