RAJOURI, Jan 24: A young woman died of alleged medical negligence in district Rajouri today while family members have demanded impartial inquiry into the matter.
Report said a 23-year-old Shahida Kouser, wife of Asif Hussain, resident of Nadyala (Chingus), lost her life due to alleged negligence on the part of local Primary Health Center (PHC). The PHC was found closed when the patient sought urgent medical attention, raising serious concerns about the healthcare system in the sub-region.
The family members said Shahida, who had some health complications, arrived at the PHC for treatment only to find it closed. Desperate for help, they approached a nearby medical shop run by Mohd Mushtaq, son of Mohd Bashir. The shop owner administered an injection to the patient. Unfortunately, on her way home, her condition worsened. She was brought back to the PHC, which was still closed.
Locals revealed that no ambulance was available at the PHC to shift the serious patient to GMC Rajouri for advanced treatment. It has also come to light that the ambulance driver allegedly parks the vehicle near his residence and keeps his mobile phone switched off, making it inaccessible during emergencies.
Residents of the area have expressed their anger over the situation, stating that doctors and staff at the PHC do not attend their duties regularly.
SI Sunil Sharma of Police Post Chingus confirmed that the police have initiated an inquest to ascertain the facts surrounding the incident.
The tragic death of Shahida has sparked outrage among locals, who are demanding immediate action against those responsible. They have called for accountability measures, regular staff attendance at the PHC, and the availability of ambulances and other essential services to prevent such incidents in the future.
CMO, Rajouri, Dr M L Rana when contacted said that matter came to his notice and he has ordered an inquiry into the matter. He said a four member team headed by BMO Sunderbani will hold the inquiry.
