KATHUA, Mar 8: An 18-year-old girl was crushed to death by a speeding dumper at Pallimorh area of Kathua district today.

According to eyewitnesses, the victim, identified as Sarika daughter of Tara Chand of Nihalpur, Kathua, was waiting for a bus to go to college when the dumper (JK02DD-1438), struck her.
Despite signalling the driver to stop, the dumper driver ignored the warning and continued at high speed, running over the girl, they said.
Local residents quickly rushed Sarika to GMC Kathua, but doctors declared her dead upon arrival.
The incident sparked outrage among local residents, leading to a strong protest against the reckless driving of dumper operators.
The protestors blocked the National Highway, causing a long traffic jam. As the tension escalated, police arrived at the scene and assured the public that action would be taken against the driver.
According to a police official, while the dumper driver has been arrested, a case under the relevant sections of the law has been registered against him.
The traffic was restored after an hour when the protest was called off.
