Young cricketer dies of drowning in Sunderbani

RAJOURI, July 27: In a tragic incident that has left the local sports community in shock, an 18-year-old budding cricketer lost his life due to drowning in Munawar Tawi river in Sunderbani area of Rajouri district today.

The deceased has been identified as Lakshit Sharma, a resident of Channi, Sunderbani. According to initial reports, the incident occurred in the morning while Lakshit had gone to the river site. He slipped into the river and drowned. Despite immediate efforts, the young boy could not be saved.
Lakshit was widely known in local sports circles for his exceptional talent and was seen as a rising star with great potential in the sport. His sudden demise has left a deep void among his peers, coaches, and the wider sports community of Rajouri.
Following the incident, the body was retrieved from the river and shifted to Sub District Hospital Sunderbani for medico-legal formalities. Dr Meena Kumari, Block Medical Officer, Sunderbani, confirmed that postmortem was conducted, after which the body was handed over to the family.
