JAMMU, Mar 2: Eminent translator and senior Dogri litterateur Yashpal Nirmal was honoured with the prestigious “Dr Gargi Gupta Dwivagish” Award for the year 2023-24 by the Indian Translation Council, New Delhi.
The Award comprising prize money of Rs 21000, shawl, citation and a memento was given to Nirmal for his significant and remarkable contribution in the field of translation literature in Hindi-Dogri-Hindi languages. The award ceremony was held at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Auditorium, New Delhi.
On the occasion, Prof Prakash Singh, Director, South Campus, New Delhi was the chief guest, while Prof Nandini Sahu, Vice Chancellor, Hindi University, West Bengal presided over the ceremony and eminent litterateur and translator Nasira Sharma was the special guest. Prof Puran Chand Tandon (general secretary, Indian Translation Council) as well as Santosh Khanna and Krishna Gopal Agarwal (vice presidents, Indian Translation Council) also shared the dice.
Yashpal Nirmal, a resident of Gadhi Bishnah village of Chhamb Jourian (Jammu) is currently working as Assistant Editor, Office Language in the Government of Jammu and Kashmir. Nirmal’s first Dogri poetry collection Anmol Jindri was published in the year 1996. So far, more than 85 of his original and translated books on various subjects have been published in Hindi, Dogri and English languages.
He has received many honors and awards for his translation work, literary creation, social service, journalism and incomparable contribution in the cultural field including the National Translation Award of the year 2014 by Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi for the play Mian Dido, Patrakar Bharti Award (2004) and Jammu Kashmir Ratna Award (2010).
