Written exam for posts of Fireman/ Driver cancelled

Excelsior Correspondent

JAMMU, Aug 1: The Home Department of State Government today ordered cancellation of the written examination for the posts of Fireman/Fireman Driver, conducted last year by the Departmental Recruitment Board of the Fire & Emergency Services.
The written examination , conducted on December 16-17, 2018, has been cancelled following reports of mass copying, use of mobile phones and impersonation cases in various centres in the Valley and directions of the High Court in a writ petition contending the same.
An order for cancelation of the written examination was issued today by Principal Secretary Home, Shaleen Kabra.
As per the order, the written examination for the posts of Fireman/Fireman Driver in the Fire & Emergency Services Department, shall be conducted afresh.
Pertinent to mention that advertisement for the posts of Fireman/Fireman Driver was issued vide notification number 01 of 2013, dated 12-03-2013 by the J&K Fire & Emergency Services Department. After conduct of Physical Standard Tests (PST) and Physical Endurance Tests (PET) through Transparent Recruitment Process, the successful candidates appeared in the written test in various centres set up across the State.
According to the Home Department order for cancellation of the written examination, upon careful examination and scrutiny of the details/information on record, including communication of the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, it was found that mobile phones/gadgets were used in some examination centres; there is reasonable suspicion of impersonation in respect of a few candidates; and the mode and manner of the deployment of Superintendents/ Supervisors and Invigilators has also not been found to be based on the criteria being adopted by other recruiting agencies.
This has resulted in serious doubts over the fairness and transparency of the written examination, which is therefore cancelled, says the order.
