JAMMU, June 16: The writers’ reading cum interaction space facility was inaugurated by Brij Mohan Sharma, principal secretary, Department of Culture, J&K, here today.
The event was organised by J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages and witnessed the presence of several eminent writers and intellectuals from the Jammu region.
Harvinder Kaur, secretary, Academy, Sonali Arun Gupta, additional secretary, Dr Javaid Rahi, divisional head, JKAACL Jammu, Padma Shri Prof Lalit Magotra and noted art historian Dr Lalit Gupta were in the presidium.
In his address, Brij Mohan Sharma, stated that the new reading- cum Interaction space facility will serve as a vital hub for writers, thinkers and intellectuals of the region.
He urged the literary community to actively use the space to enhance their literary and cultural pursuits.
“Abhinav Theatre will soon be equipped with a centralized air-conditioning system and Kala Kendra Jammu will also have air-conditioned galleries to enhance the visitor experience,” he informed and also invited meaningful suggestions from writers and artists to improve the functioning of various cultural institutions under the Department of Culture.
Welcoming the guests, Harvinder Kaur highlighted that the main objective of the newly inaugurated facility is to provide a dedicated space for writers of the Jammu to engage in discussions and explore emerging literary trends.
Among others who graced the event and the interactive session included Inderjeet Kesar, Ashok Kumar, Nirmal Vinod, Aruna Sharma, Shyam Bihari, Swarn Mala, Prof Raj Kumar, Sheikh Mohammad Kalyan, Sunita Barhwal, Sanjeev Bhasin, Sanjay Sharma, Vijay Verma, Baljeet Singh Raina, Deepak Kumar, Harjeet Singh Uppal and others.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks presented by Sonali Arun Gupta on behalf of JKAACL.
