JAMMU, May 30: In observance of World No Tobacco Day, educational and civic institutions across Jammu held impactful events to raise awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco and promote healthy lifestyles.
At Government College of Education (GCOE), Jammu, the event was held under the supervision of Principal Prof. (Dr.) Jyoti Parihar and Prof. Sunanda Rani, Convener, NCORD Committee. Students and faculty including Prof. Satish Sharma, Dr. Rajinder Kour, Dr. Shalini Sharma, Prof. Roopa Kumari and Dr. Ambika Sharma participated in an anti-tobacco rally, followed by an essay writing competition. Prof. Rani emphasized unmasking tobacco industry tactics under the theme “Bright Products, Dark Intentions.”
Meanwhile, Bharat Vikas Parishad, Taushi Branch, in collaboration with Government Dental College, Jammu, organized a programme at Government High School, Muthi. Led by Dr. Mandip Kaur, the dental team included Dr. Ayeda, Dr. Wajiha, Dr. Manisha Koul, Akanshi, Simran, Roopali, Ayush, Sahil, and Sandeep Sharma. A dental check-up and interaction on addiction dangers were followed by a pledge ceremony. Chander Mohan Sharma, Kuldesh Sharma, Jagmohan Sharma, Arvind Khajuria, Balwant Singh and Sat Pal Sharma coordinated the event. Ajay Khajuria, President, Taushi Branch, thanked the school staff and dental team for the programme.
Meanwhile, Bhargava Public School, Samba, in collaboration with District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Samba, hosted an Anti-Tobacco Day event presided over by Sub Judge and DLSA Secretary Sandeep Singh Sen. The program included lamp lighting, student presentations on “Say No to Tobacco,” and a painting competition with awards for the top three winners. Speakers including Rajni Sambyal, Itee Sharma and Versha Anthal highlighted tobacco’s ill effects. Principal Subhash Kumar urged students to become ambassadors for a tobacco-free society. The proceedings were conducted by Versha Anthal.
