LEH, Dec 21: The World Meditation Day was observed with reverence and enthusiasm at the Mahabodhi International Meditation Centre (MIMC), here today.
The programme was graced by the presence of founder MIMC, Bhikkhu Sanghasena, along with distinguished guests including Air Commodore Sanjay Prabhu, Vayu Sena Medal, Air Officer Commanding, 21 Wing Air Force Station Leh, and Dr Tashi Thinles, Director of Health Services, UT Ladakh.
Senior members of MIMC, officers and jawans from the Indian Army and ITBP and representatives from the University of Ladakh also attended the event.
Speakers highlighted the global significance of World Meditation Day, recognised by the United Nations following collective efforts by several countries, including India.
They emphasised meditation as a universal practice that fosters inner peace, mental well-being, compassion and social harmony, values especially relevant in today’s fast-paced and stress-filled world.
The speakers also acknowledged MIMC’s pioneering role in promoting meditation, yoga and human values in Ladakh for nearly four decades.
The occasion gained added significance as it coincided with the auspicious festival of Losar.
In this spirit of reflection and renewal, the gathering collectively congratulated Bhikkhu Sanghasena on receiving the prestigious PM Yoga Award from Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 19 December.
A special video capturing the moment of Bhikkhu Sanghasena receiving the award from the PM was screened during the programme, drawing warm applause and a sense of collective pride.
