JAMMU, Feb 4: World Cancer Day was observed across Jammu region by Health institutions and NGOs by organizing awareness programmes on cancer.
Such 17 impactful campaigns on cervical cancer were successfully conducted across several districts in the Jammu region, including Kathua, Kishenpur Kandi, Samba, Jammu, Gol Pattan, Boond Village Basholi, Suchetgarh Border, Akhnoor, Kot Bhalwal, Marh, Udhampur, Ramgarh, Katra, Miran Sahib and RS Pura.
The campaigns, which aimed to educate women and girls about the importance of cervical cancer prevention, concluded with an impactful event held in SDH RS Pura under the leadership of Dr Rakesh Mangotra (Director Health Services). The key note speakers Dr Rajiv Gupta and Dr Paras Khanna gave awareness to 184 ASHA workers, 120 Anganwari workers and 50 staff members under the guidance of BMO Dr Monika Kotwal.
Ritu Singh spoke about the social stigma of Cancer among the rural population and the challenges faced by the border belt and how we could help them to overcome them. MLA Narinder Raina, Dr Gharu Ram, SDM RS Pura Seema Parihaar, DD Schemes Dr Poonam Sethi, AD Schemes Dr ILA Gupta, Dr Shushma Matto State Leprosy Officer and Tehsildar Shikhar also attended the event.
A major highlight of these campaigns was the Free HPV Vaccine drive for underprivileged girls. The vaccination campaign was specifically targeted at girls aged 8 to 13 years from slum areas and the orphanage in Balgram, Channi Himmat.
The campaigns were further supported by a charitable initiative that provided 35 room heaters to the Pediatric Oncology Ward of SMGS Hospital. These room heaters, donated by NGO SUPPORT and the Maharaja Hari Singh Foundation, were a much-needed contribution for the comfort of young patients undergoing cancer treatment during the winter season.
Blood Donation camps were also organized for cancer & thalassaemia kids. These initiatives were supported by the State Cancer Institute, Rotary Club Bahu 3070, ISBTI J&K Chapter and YBA demonstrating a collaborative effort towards cancer care and prevention.
The successful execution of these campaigns was mobilized by a dedicated team led by Dr Navneet Kaur and Ritu Singh, whose leadership and passion for social welfare were integral to the campaign’s reach and impact.
World Cancer Day was observed at American Oncology Institute ASCOMS Jammu with the ‘Show Your Hand Campaign’ in solidarity for the cause of cancer awareness. Cancer patients were engaged by organizing an interactive session. Three best messages in the campaign were awarded. First place went to Ashna K, second place to Arjun, and third place to Diksha. The event was supported by LBN Radiations of Hope, a cancer care foundation trust.
