World Blood Donor Day observed across J&K with enthusiasm

JAMMU, June 14: World Blood Donor Day was celebrated today with great enthusiasm by various educational, health and social institutions across Jammu and Kashmir under the theme Give Blood, Give Hope: Together we save lives” by organizing blood donation camps and conducting awareness activities.
The Indian Red Cross Society, J&K, in collaboration with Airport Authority of India, Jammu, celebrated World Blood Donor Day at Jammu Civil Airport. Under the theme “Give Blood, Give Hope,” 32 donors participated. Airport Director Sanjeev Kumar Garg and IRCS General Secretary Rohit Khajuria led the event. Senior Commandant Sunil Kumar Raghuwanshi and GM B.M. Kaul also attended. The camp was supervised by Vironica Marwah.
On World Blood Donation Day, Congress workers led by JKPCC Chief Spokesperson Ravinder Sharma, Ex-MLC, donated blood at GMC Hospital, Jammu in a camp organized by Amar Ujala. Young leaders including Sanjeev Panda, Virinder Singh Manhas, Vijay Shastri, Latish Sharma, Rakesh Sharma, Sohit Sharma, Janak Mehra, Shakti Singh, Dinesh Kumar and Sohan Bhagat participated. Amar Ujala Bureau Chief Rolly Khanna and staff were also present.
RED DROP, under Kashmir Concern, celebrated World Blood Donors Day in Srinagar, highlighting voluntary blood donation’s vital role. MLA Salman Ali Sagar inspired citizens to donate blood as an act of humanity. Chairman Dr. Touseef Ahmed Bhatt emphasized bridging donors and recipients. Guests including Vijay Kumar Bidhuri (Divisional Commissioner Kashmir) praised collaborative efforts. The event honoured Shabir Hussain Khan and Bilkees Ara for their exceptional donations and urged wider public participation.
4 J&K BN NCC of GDC Kathua celebrated World Blood Donor Day with a blood donation drive, poster making and online pledge. Cadets Daljeet Singh, Shivam Sharma, Bharat, and Ayush Khatri donated blood at GMC Kathua. Activities were coordinated by Lt. (Dr.) Daya Ram and Dr. Pinkey, under Principal Dr. Savi Bahl’s patronage.
The Department of Botany and Institution’s Innovation Council at GDC Thannamandi celebrated World Blood Donor Day under Principal Prof. (Dr.) Farooq Ahmed. Dr. Ashaq Malik coordinated the event, highlighting the importance of voluntary blood donation. Other attendees included Dr. Shiraz Ahmed, Anuj Bali, Paramvir Singh, Raees Ahmed, Sugra Jabeen and Shafqat Shabir.
The IQAC and Red Ribbon Club of GDC Marheen organized an awareness program on “Give Blood, give hope, together we save lives” under Principal Prof. (Dr.) Anupama Gupta. Dr. Balbinder Singh and Prof. Anoop Sharma delivered lectures on the importance of voluntary blood donation. The event was managed by Prof. Sandeep Chaudhary, Dr. Munisha and Prof. Manu.
Indian Red Cross Society Kathua, in collaboration with GMC Kathua, organized a blood donation camp on World Blood Donor Day. Inaugurated by ADC Vishavjeet Singh, the camp saw over 40 units of blood donated by volunteers. Doctors, paramedics and NCC cadets supported the event. ADC praised blood donation as a life-saving act and urged more people to donate regularly. Certificates were awarded to donors for their contribution.
The NSS unit (KHIDMAT) of Government Degree College Vijaypur, in collaboration with the Department of English, celebrated World Blood Donor Day-2025 with a slogan writing competition on the theme “Give blood, give hope: together we save lives!” Under Principal Prof. (Dr.) Ashu Vashist, the event was coordinated by Dr. Arti Sharma and Dr. Naseem Chowdhary, with Dr. Manoj Heer as co-coordinator. Winners included Sharavan Jamwal, Bhawani Singh Slathia and Risha.
Govt. Dy. SP Aman Thakur Memorial Degree College Kastigarh, in collaboration with J&K AIDS Control Society, observed World Blood Donor Day under the theme “Give blood give hope: together we save lives.” Principal delivered the welcome address, and Dr. Sumit Kotwal, Nodal Officer of Red Ribbon Club, highlighted the importance of voluntary blood donation and its role in saving lives.
The NCC Unit of Dogra Degree College organized a blood donation camp at Government Hospital, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, on World Blood Donor Day. Guided by Gulshan Sharma and coordinated by Dr. Uttra Sambyal, the camp was graced by Dr. Bela Thakur. Around 15 donors participated, including a donation for a student’s father, highlighting selfless community spirit.
Leh celebrated World Blood Donor Day with a blood donation camp and inaugurated the Advanced Blood Component Facility at SNM Hospital. Chief Executive Councillor Advocate Tashi Gyalson inaugurated the facility, praised donors, and lauded officials Manoj Kumar and Nasreen Bano for their efforts. Dr. Yangchen Dolma and Dr. Rinchen Chosdol emphasized the importance of blood donation and improved healthcare services. The event saw participation from local dignitaries and volunteers.
District Hospital Bandipora, with Bandipora Volunteers, organized a blood donation camp on World Blood Donor Day 2025. Chief Medical Officer Dr. Ishtiyaq Ahmad and Medical Superintendent Dr. Masrat Iqbal Wani inaugurated the event, collecting over 50 units of blood. Volunteer’s Zahoor Ahmad Bhat and first-time donor Aamir Gani praised the spirit of giving and community support.
Marking World Blood Donor Day, Shubam Singh Charak, State President of Sadhana Foundation, donated blood for the 66th time, setting an example of commitment and service.
Charak, who has been actively leading social and health-related initiatives across Jammu and Kashmir, said the act of blood donation can save lives and urged people to come forward and donate voluntarily.
“Blood donation is a small act with a big impact. On this day, I appeal to everyone to help those in need by donating blood,” he said.
Under Charak’s leadership, the Sadhana Foundation has regularly organised blood donation camps and awareness drives across the region to ensure availability of safe blood during emergencies.
His 66th donation not only highlights his personal resolve but also strengthens the Foundation’s ongoing mission to build a strong culture of voluntary blood donation.
