JAMMU, May 30: Two day research workshop on “Writing Research Proposal for Funding” began today at University of Jammu.
The workshop has been organized by the Faculty of Science, JU, in collaboration with J&K State Technology and Innovation Council, Department of Science & Technology, J&K Govt.
Prof Poonam Dhawan, Dean Academic Affair, who inaugurated the workshop, hoped that the participants will get the much needed input for framing quality research proposals. She said that younger faculty and scholars are full of new ideas and hence should come up with innovative research ideas.
Prof Jigar Mohd, Dean Research Studies, laid emphasis on the need of conducting innovative but relevant researches. “Young faculty members need to keep themselves motivated by being involved in some kind of research activities,” he said and added that granting agencies were ready to fund proposals of good quality.
Earlier in her welcome address, Prof Rajni Dhingra, Dean, Faculty of Science and Convenor of the workshop, emphasized on the relevance of the programme. She laid emphasis that all scientific knowledge needs regular updating and research projects are a significant way of improving the quality of research.
The vote of thanks was presented by Dr Sarika Manhas, organizing secretary of the workshop.
Three technical sessions were organized on the first day of the workshop. Prof Rajnikant from the Department of Physics, JU, carried out the first technical session. He talked about basics of research, parameters of quality research, identifying research topics, & framing research objectives. He threw light on the various funding agencies such as DST, CSIR EMR grant, Department of Atomics Energy through Board of Research in Nuclear Science, DRDO Department of Electronics & Information Technology, Depart-ment of Bio-Technology Indian Council for Agriculture Research. Prof Kamal K Kapoor from the Department of Chemistry, JU, deliberated on Academic-Industry interface and on importance of patenting. Prof Manoj Dhar, Director, School of Bio-technology talked about ethics in research and components of research proposal.
The fourth session was a “writeshop” where the participants were divided into small groups and prepared research proposals.
