JAMMU, Jan 30: Directorate of Floriculture, Parks & Gardens in collaboration with NGO Support conducted a day long workshop on ‘Sexual Harassment at Workplace’ at its premises at Har ki Pouri Jammu here today.
Dr Navneet Kour founder Chairperson of NGO Support, Creative Self Employed Entrepreneurs Cooperative Ltd & Certified POSH trainer and a representative of Sexual Harassment Committee with the Social Welfare Department J&K chaired the workshop as the key note speaker.
She drew attention towards the declining trend in reporting harassment cases and social stigma in women over a few decades, one of the reasons, she felt, behind this trend was the concern related to their safety at the workplace. She expressed her concern about the increasing cases of sexual violence against women and girls.
She educated the participants of the Internal Complaints Committee & the women attendees of the workshop with the POSH Act and gave awareness on their rights. The Members of the Committee were given training to deal with the complaints of sexual harassment by Dr Kour. She added it appears that the women are not reporting about the sexual harassment cases at workplace. Further, it is also necessary to involve the private sector to ensure that all Government, private and corporate institutions to set up Internal Complaints Committee (ICC).
Dr Navneet Kour & Gurneet Kour Chairperson of ICC of the department highlighted some focal points where the workshop touched upon included, awareness about sexual harassment at workplace, understanding of the POSH Act, behaviours that are actionable under the POSH Act, compliances and penalties and mock trials. Eminent Social Activist Mahajbeen Nabi was invited as resource person, as an expert on issues faced by women at workplace.
The participants included the Deputy Director Planning, Gurneet Kour Chairperson of the ICC of the department of floriculture parks and gardens, Vikrant & officials from the department, Mahajbeen Nabi founder Chairperson of Care Foundation & Vice Chairperson NGO Support, Gurneet Singh Director NGO Support, Nabeena Nabi from Delhi Legal Service, academicians and people from civil society for Jammu as well as Kashmir division & members of NGO Support, Rotary Bahu, Care foundation.
