JAMMU, July 9: Provincial President National Conference Devender Singh Rana on Tuesday lashed out at Bharatiya Janata Party for pushing its sinister and communal agenda to vitiate the atmosphere ahead of elections scheduled next year.
Addressing a youth rally at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhavan here this afternoon, the Provincial President urged people to foil all such divisive machinations by maintaining unity and tranquility.
“Whenever BJP finds itself in a political whirlpool, it resorts to inciting passions by raking up frivolous issues”, he said while referring to the orchestrated campaign on scrapping the Article 370 of the Constitution, granting special status to Jammu and Kashmir.
Mr Rana said: “Normally, the hilarious demand being raised by the saffron brigade deserves no serious attention except the contempt but since these are being pushed with devilish motive to divide society and to hoodwink people, I challenge them to debate how they can realize their misconstrued agenda”.
The Provincial President described the special provision of the Constitution as guarantee to the legitimate rights of the people of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh and warned that any attempt to weaken the unique status of the State will be opposed tooth and nail by National Conference. He also cautioned the BJP and its undeclared ally, People’s Democratic Party, not to undermine the political understanding of the people, saying they can see through their designs of fragmenting the State to achieve their nefarious agenda.
The Provincial President reminded the youth about the disruptive tactics of self-centered leaders who have always trampled the people’s mandate, especially in 1984 and 1990, at the behest of their masters. “Despite changing apparels their traits have not changed”, he said and asked youth to help in isolating these elements from the political scene once forever.
Overwhelmed by the presence of large number of youth and their interest in affairs of the State, Mr Rana exhorted them to be a part of change for steering Jammu and Kashmir to new pinnacles of progress and development. He said the blend of youth and experience of elders will make National Conference a force to reckon with. “The changing political landscape has unnerved those reposing faith in New Delhi rather than the people of the State”, he said.
Mr Rana dwelt in detail on various revolutionary measures initiated by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah during the past four and half years and said steps are underway to generate employment through various innovative schemes; undertake development; ensure transparency and above all restore peace.
Those who were present on the occasion included Balwan Singh, Rakesh Chib, Taranjeet Singh Tony, Surinder Singh Bunty, Ranjit Kalra, Mudasar Zargar, Rameshwar Dutt, Ch. Rehmat Ali, Som Nath Khajuria Anuradha Goswami, Sarpanch Sarajdin, Din Mohammad, Balwan Singh, Gulail Singh, Sukha.
