Women’s Bill

Sir,
This has reference to the news item ‘Sonia writes to PM on Women’s Bill’ DE Sept 22.
By writing the letter the Congress President may want to achieve two objectives – one, in case NDA Government succeeds in passing the Women’s Reservation Bill, Congress would like to take its credit, second, in case the Bill is not passed the Congress party will hold NDA Government responsible for its failure. Whatever may be the objective of the Congress Party by extending support to the Bill, the truth is that the Bill needs to be passed now. Almost more than six years have passed since Rajya Sabha passed the Bill on March 9, 2016, but got stuck in Lok Sabha due to the opposition  by various political parties.
Had it been passed, it would  have given a new dimension to political landscape of the country, and would have given a boost to women empowerment in India.
If the political parties, particulalry those in NDA coalition are sincere to the cause of women, it is high time that the Bill be passed.
Yours etc…
