JAMMU, Jan 23: The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC), vice president and former MLA, Indu Pawar today asked the J&K UT administration to take effective steps to solve the day to day problems of the poor masses, especially women.
Addressing a meeting of women cadre of the party, Pawar said that the failure of the authorities to address the genuine grievances of the masses fueled alienation among women. She said the women are bearing the maximum brunt of the prevailing socio-economic inequality in society.
She asked the authorities to implement and expand social welfare programs, such as food assistance programs, to ensure that everyone has access to nutritious food, especially women and poor people.
“Improve access to clean water and sanitation facilities, especially in rural areas”, she said and pointed out that a large chunk of the society is still deprived of these basic amenities.
“Establish and strengthen affordable healthcare services, ensuring that basic medical needs are met without causing financial strain”, she said emphasizing promoting health education to prevent diseases and improve overall well-being.
She further said that the poor and neglected women in the society are still deprived of quality education. “Ensure access to quality education, with a focus on affordable or free primary and secondary education”, she said, adding, “Provide vocational training to equip individuals with skills that can lead to employment opportunities”.
Congress vice president further asked the authorities to develop policies and programs that stimulate job creation, especially in sectors that benefit the poor.
“Facilitate access to micro-finance and support for small businesses to empower individuals to lift themselves out of poverty”, she said.
Congress leaders said that addressing these aspects collectively can contribute to breaking the cycle of poverty, fostering inclusivity and reducing the alienation experienced by the poor masses.
She added that Governments, non-governmental organizations and communities must collaborate in implementing these solutions.
