JAMMU, Nov 2: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Jammu and Kashmir general secretary and former Deputy Mayor Jammu, Baldev Singh Billawaria, addressed a meeting here, today which was organised by a Women Self-Help Group (SHG).
The event witnessed the participation of a large number of women associated with various SHGs, social workers, and local representatives.
Speaking on the occasion, Billawaria emphasized that under the leadership of Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, India is progressing rapidly towards the vision of an ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ (Self-Reliant India), with women self-help groups playing a crucial role in this transformative journey.
He stated that the Modi Government aims to ensure that every woman associated with a Self-Help Group becomes a ‘Lakhpati Didi’, earning at least one lakh rupees annually. This initiative, he said, is not just about economic empowerment but also about social and psychological upliftment of women across the country. Billawaria further noted that women SHGs are not only tools for economic empowerment but also serve as agents of confidence, leadership, and social change. “When a woman becomes self-reliant, her entire family and society become stronger,” he remarked.
Highlighting the growing participation of women in entrepreneurship across J&K, Billawaria praised the commendable work being done by SHGs in areas such as dairy farming, weaving, stitching and embroidery, food processing, and handicrafts.
During the meeting, several women members shared their experiences, narrating how Government support and training programmes have helped them improve their families’ financial conditions and gain newfound confidence.
