JAMMU, May 20: Former MLA and State vice president NC women wing, Bimla Luthra has claimed that although women constitute nearly 50 per cent of the voting populace in J&K yet their representation in governance continues to be neglected.
Addressing women wing workers in Kalka Basti near Gorkha Nagar in Bahu Constituency, the NC leader flayed the previous Government for failing to deliver on the promises made for the welfare of women.
“Lack of employment opportunities, healthcare facilities and women-centric policies has left the female populace struggling with unaddressed issues,” she maintained adding, “The previous regimes did nothing substantial for the welfare of women folk.”
However, Luthra said that women have high hopes on the present Government led by Omar Abdullah, who has always championed their rights.
“We need to ensure that women play a decisive role in governance and policymaking,” she asserted.
Prominent women leaders present in the meeting were Pinky Khalsa, district NC president Jammu Urban Women Wing; Joginder Kour, district vice president Jammu Urban Women Wing; Sapna Gill, block president Jammu East Women Wing; Daljeet Kour, Madhu and others.
