Women given large share in welfare schemes: Rekha

JAMMU, Dec 15: Secretary, BJP, Jammu & Kashmir, Rekha Mahajan, said today that after Narendra Modi took over as PM in May 2014, things have improved a lot, for Indian women. The credit for this remarkable change on the ground and in global perception goes to Modi, she added.
Rekha Mahajan said that for the first time, the Government’s flagship schemes are focusing on women. Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana, facilitates the education of the girl child and has already reached out to more than three crore aspirational young women. PM Jan Dhan Yojana, wherein, 40 crore bank accounts have been opened, more than 50% of the beneficiaries are women from the weaker sections of the society. Over 11 crore toilets have been built in rural India under the ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ and the women have been at the receiving end because earlier due to lack of toilets they had to face problems in their day to day life.
The BJP Government, under Narendra Modi, has increased maternity leave given not just to Government employees but also private employees to 26 weeks from 12 weeks.
This Government has removed the discriminatory practice, wherein, Muslim women were allowed to travel for Haj only when there was a male guardian accompanying them, a tradition that had been in practice for the past 70 years.
The Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY) provides loan up to Rs 10 lakh to small entrepreneurs and one of the major beneficiaries of this scheme has been small scale women entrepreneurs.
Cooking food, using a gas connection, may not be a big deal for many but for the eight crore beneficiaries of Modi ‘s Ujjwala Yojna getting a free gas connection is a major milestone, which helps women to lead smoke-free lives, thus leading to a healthier lifestyle.
Under BJP Government, women have an opportunity to be permanent employee in the Indian Army and the Indian Navy, something that was unthinkable earlier besides working in coal mines.
