Women personnel in the armed forces having incessantly been fighting on the legal front for ensuring a fair deal for them at par with their male counterparts in service and promotion related matters has greatly changed the gender scenario prevalent in the armed forces. On that front also , they have won thus whether in matters of getting ranks and promotion of Commission or getting access to the admission in the prestigious National Defence Academy (NDA) , they have ensured that in gender equality as enshrined in the constitution of India, there was no more any male dominancy and discrimination on the basis of sex. The Chief of the Army Staff General M. M. Naravane describing the admission of women cadets in the National Defence Academy as ”the first step towards gender equality” in the armed forces vindicates the struggle they have successfully made to ensure such an equality to usher in a feeling of fair play and sheer professionalism in the forces to rule high. What would such new initiatives taking place result say after 40 years, exactly reaching the same position as the General himself, according to him, proves the most important point of how equality behaves positively and rather splendidly. Not even wasting professional cum academic one precious year in the NDA due to procedural formalities, as per the order of the Supreme Court, the women cadets will take the yearly examinations scheduled in November itself this year and not in May next year. In many cases, following completing the NDA course and training etc, after rolled out successfully, women candidates would be performing better than many male counterparts cannot be ruled out, as hoped even by the General after reviewing the passing out parade of the 141st course of the NDA
