Women at core of J&K’s growth agenda: NC leaders

JAMMU, Mar 31: Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) Provincial Secretary Jammu, Sheikh Bashir Ahmad today said that the Government led by Omar Abdullah is committed to placing women at the centre of development in Jammu and Kashmir.
He was addressing a meeting of the party’s Women’s Wing functionaries chaired by former MLA and State Women’s Wing Vice President Bimla Luthra.
Speaking on the occasion, Bashir highlighted the “Zero-Ticket Travel” initiative, stating that it has improved women’s access to education, employment and public spaces, while enhancing their dignity and safety.
Chairman SC Cell Vijay Lochan said the Government is promoting women’s empowerment through schemes like “Lakhpati Didi” to boost financial independence, along with youth-focused programmes encouraging entrepreneurship, especially in digital and e-commerce sectors.
Bimla Luthra said the Women’s Wing is actively engaging with people through door-to-door outreach and public interactions to understand women’s issues and ensure their concerns are reflected in policies.
She also called upon party workers to prepare for upcoming Panchayat and Urban Local Bodies elections and strengthen the organisation at the grassroots level.
Among others present were Pardeep Bali, Laxmi Datta, Rakesh Singh Raka, Priyanka Sharma, Meenakashi Raina, Sonia Sharma, Ruchita Gupta, Satvir Kour and Arti Suri.
