JAMMU, Feb 29: A woman allegedly committed suicide by setting self on fire in Rajpura area of city outskirts.
According to a police spokesman, during the intervening night of February 28 and 29, Bimla Devi (42) wife of late Mohinder Kumar, a resident of Rajpura falling within the jurisdiction of police station Bakshi Nagar, sprinkled kerosene oil on her body in the yard of her residence and sets self on fire, when all the family members were sleeping.
Before the family members could know of the incident and rescue her, the woman was burnt severely (about 90%). On getting information from family members, police also reached the spot but till then the woman had succumbed to her injuries.
After completing all medico-legal formalities the body of the deceased was handed over to her legal heirs for last rites.
In this connection, a case under Section 174 CrPC was registered at police station Bakshi Nagar and further investigations were underway.
