RAJOURI, Mar 9: A woman and her newborn baby were killed in a road accident in Balshama area of Rajouri district today.
Reports said the tragic accident occurred on the National Highway near PHC Balshama involving a school bus, bearing registration number, JK11G-8076 and a car (Hyundai i10) with number, JK05-8423. The car was moving from Jammu towards Poonch when the accident took place. In the unfortunate incident, Shakeel Ahmed (25), son of Mohd Sadeeq and resident of Mandi, District Poonch, Shahnaz Akhter, wife of Abdul Majid, resident of Mandi, in District Poonch, along with a five-day-old newborn baby, who were travelling in the car, sustained critical injuries.
Soon after the accident, a police team from Police Station Sunderbani led by SHO Inspector Rajiv Sharma rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to Sub-District Hospital (SDH), Sunderbani for medical treatment.
However, despite the best efforts by the doctors, Shahnaz Akhter and newborn baby succumbed to their injuries at the hospital. Dr Meena Kumari, Block Medical Officer Sunderbani, said that mother and her baby died in the hospital during treatment.
Meanwhile, police have registered FIR No. 19/2026 under relevant sections of law, and started investigation into the case.
