Woman nabbed for theft, ATM fraud

POONCH, Jan 15: A shopkeeper’s complaint led to the swift arrest of a woman involved in theft and ATM fraud in the Mendhar region.
Mohd Naseeb, a grocery store owner in the main market, reported that on January 12, 2025, while attending to customers, unknown miscreants stole money garlands worth Rs 10,000 from his shop.
Based on the complaint, FIR Number 06/2025 under Sections 331(3) and 305 BNS was promptly registered, and an investigation was launched. During the inquiry, the police identified and arrested the suspect, Rifat Yasmeen, daughter of Mohd Saghir, a resident of Harooni Gursai, Tehsil Mendhar. A personal search of the accused led to the recovery of the stolen money garlands and five ATM cards in her possession.
Upon interrogation, it was revealed that Yasmeen is a habitual ATM fraudster, notorious for deceiving customers unfamiliar with ATM operations in Mendhar and Surankote towns. She is allegedly involved in multiple fraud cases and is wanted in various police stations, including Police Station Surankote.
The operation was led by SHO Mendhar, Inspector Ajiaz Wani.
