JAMMU, Aug 10: A 29-year-old woman was found dead under mysterious circumstances at her in-laws’ residence in the Marh area today, with her family alleging she was murdered.
Police said Shivani Devi, wife of Anil Kumar of Sohagani, was found hanging from a ceiling fan at her in-laws’ house by her brother.
The incident came a day after she allegedly had an altercation with her in-laws. She was rushed to Government Medical College Jammu, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.
Her brother alleged that Shivani was being harassed and tortured by her in-laws since her marriage.
“She often spoke about her ordeal, and I tried to mediate to maintain peace in the family. Yesterday, she called me again in distress, saying she had been beaten,” he claimed.
“When we went to her in-laws’ house, we found her hanging, we believe she was murdered.”
Police said a case under relevant sections has been registered at Police Station Kahnachak, and her husband has been detained for questioning.
Meanwhile, further investigation is underway.
