JAMMU, Oct 24: Sixty-two fresh cases of dengue were reported in Jammu on Wednesday, taking the total number of patients affected with the disease so far this year to 4157 in the Union Territory.
“With 62 more cases in Jammu district, the number of people affected with the vector-borne disease in the Jammu district has risen to 2630”, a health official said, adding, more than 90% cases have been reported from municipal areas including major hotspots like Muthi, Vinayak Nagar, Roop Nagar, Janipur and Durga Nagar.
He said the Jammu district is followed by Samba with 448 cases while 381 cases were reported from Kathua, 201 from Udhampur, 147 from Reasi, 108 from Rajouri, 89 from Doda, 57 from Poonch, 37 from Ramban, 11 from Kishtwar and 17 from Kashmir region. Thirty-one local cases have also been reported from other states and UTs.
The official further informed that a total of 24,194 patients were tested for dengue this year till yesterday out of which 4157 cases were found to be positive. However, it is a matter of relief that only one death has been reported due to dengue this year. He identified the deceased as a 42-year-old woman from Bathindi, Jammu (originally from Doda district).
He further revealed that out of 62 dengue cases reported yesterday, 59 were adults (39 males and 20 females) and 3 were children (2 males and 1 female). “A total of 429 patients affected with dengue were hospitalized and of them 344 were discharged after successful treatment while 73 are still under treatment in various hospitals across the UT “, the official added.
