KATHUA, Oct 20: Pakistani Rangers opened fire at Border Out Posts (BOPs) and civilian areas along the International Border in Hiranagar Sector of Kathua district today, officials said. However the BSF troops guarding the border retaliated effectively, they said.
Reports said a live Mortar Shell targeting village Manyari in Hiranagar Sector of Kathua district landed in the paddy field in the area in ceasefire violation made by Pakistani Rangers. Another Mortar Shell blasted in a field and fire engulfed in the area due to which Wheat husk was completely burnt. But there was no injury to any human being or any animal.
The Pakistani Rangers started the firing during the intervening night targeted the Manyari village. They said the exchange of fire continued up to 5.05 am but there was no report of any causality or damage on the Indian side. The BSF jawans reached the spot where the live Mortar shell was fired and covered the area. They also raised the alarm asking people not to venture in the area till the shell is defused.
