SRINAGAR, Aug 29: Weather in Kashmir showed a significant improvement today after days of incessant rains that led to dip in mercury across the region.
Although the light rainfall occurred during day but in the afternoon weather improved. The weather in Kashmir remained wet since last four days as moderate rains lashed the region, resulting in dipping of day and night temperature.
A Meteorological Department official said weather shall remain dry from August 31st but isolated rainfall is expected on Tuesday. With the improvement in weather, the day temperature also showed an increase in Srinagar by four notches.
The MeT official said that the Srinagar recorded 22.8 degree Celsius maximum temperature against yesterday’s 18.2 while the minimum temperature settled at 15.2 degree Celsius. The temperature in other parts of the Valley also witnessed increase but remained below the normal temperature.
According to the MeT official, Qazigund recorded 22.1 degree Celsius maximum temperature while minimum temperature settled at 14.4 degree Celsius. Pahalgam recorded 19.3 degree Celsius day temperature and night temperature settled at 12.6 degree Celsius. The MeT official said maximum temperature in Gulmarg was recorded 11.4 degree Celsius while the night temperature settled at 8.5 degree Celsius.
Kokernag in south Kashmir recorded 22.7 degree Celsius maximum temperature and 13.9 degree Celsius minimum temperature. The day temperature in Kupwara settled at 26.0 degree Celsius while the minimum temperature remained 14.3 degree Celsius. Leh, which is also called cold desert, recorded a 22.5 degree Celsius maximum temperature while the minimum temperature remained 14.2 degree Celsius. The day temperature in Kargil settled at 22.2 degree Celsius while the minimum temperature remained 10.6 degree Celsius
The MeT official said that there is possibility of light rain/thundershowers in Srinagar in next 24 hours. “Maximum & Minimum temperatures will be around 24°C and 16 °C respectively,” he said.
