SRINAGAR, Apr 16: Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, today said that he wants Congress vice president, Rahul Gandhi to become Prime Minister of India while People’s Democratic Party (PDP) wants Narendra Modi.
While speaking at the election rallies at Homeshalibug, Kulgam and Devsar in South Kashmir, Omar said: “I want my friend Rahul Gandhi to become Prime Minister of India and our opponents want Narendra Modi.” He said that NC and Congress has a clear agenda of defeating communal forces in the Lok Sabha elections and paving way for a young and dynamic person Rahul Gandhi, who is honest, without any blemish, with secular, democratic characteristic and a friend of Jammu and Kashmir, to be the Prime Minister of India.
Chief Minister said that the only aim of PDP to fight Lok Sabha elections is to provide tactical support to Narendra Modi and BJP by dividing voters on communal and regional lines. “They fielded candidates in Jammu and Udhampur Parliamentary constituencies to divide Congress and NC vote and help the BJP candidates. It speaks loud and clear about the understanding between BJP and PDP to wedge apart the society on communal lines and derive benefits out of it”, he added.
Omar said: “PDP and its leadership should know that people of the State are wiser enough to understand PDP’s vested interest and they will foil the conspiracy it is hatching with the BJP for the greed of chair. People will make the PDP to bite the dust in the elections for its deceptive and divisive politics.”
Chief Minister said that Narendra Modi carries stigma of Gujarat riots on him and has not been exonerated by the public for innocent killings. “Narendra Modi has also not even expressed regrets for the unfortunate massacre in Gujarat”, he added.
Omar said that BJP has categorically stated in its manifesto about the abrogation of Article 370, Uniform Civil Code and construction of Temple in Ayodhiya. He said BJP’s ‘divide and rule’ policy and communal based ideology is well known to all.
Chief Minister said: “We have to ensure that the Prime Minister of India be such a person who would carry all sections of the society with him and have secular democratic ideology besides having inclusiveness and equitable development benchmark his political agenda. This quality is possessed by the young leader Rahul Gandhi.”
Omar said that Mehbooba Mufti’s track record in the Parliament has been disappointing and dismal. “When the eyes of the entire world were on Indian Parliament to watch and see what the representative of Kashmir will speak on the important Kashmir related issue, Mehbooba could utter only four words – Main Kya Boloun Yar (What shall I speak Oh my friend)”, he said.
“Instead of this Dr. Mehboob Baig as the Parliament Member from South Kashmir has not only made scores of captivating speeches in the Parliament but also asked hundred different questions about the development of Jammu and Kashmir to various Union Ministries for replying in the Lok Sabha”, Chief Minister said.
While speaking to the election rally Minister for Tourism and senior Congress leader G A Mir said that Omar will be Chief Minister of the State for next six years but he has to guarantee that if BJP comes to power he should not support them.
Kulgam on the occasion of CM’s election rally observed shut down today. He addressed the rally in the local town hall. Earlier, before his arrival some angry youth pelted stones on passing vehicle carrying NC supporters. Police also chased a group of youth who pelted stones at Qaimu before CM’s rally leading to tension, however, police chased them away.
