KATRA, Apr 16: President Hotel & Restaurant Association Katra and Congress leader Rakesh Wazir today urged upon the State Government to regularize daily rated PHE workers who are on strike for the last more than one month.
While addressing the PHE daily wagers at Katra town under the banner of All J&K PHE ITI Trained and CP Workers Association (Jammu Province) to press for their demands, Rakesh Wazir said that time has come that Government instead of adopting the delaying tactics, should consider immediately the genuine demands of all the PHE daily wagers including CP, ITI trained, land case, casual labourers. The Government should regularize all those engaged after 1994 and also release their pending wages.
Mr Wazir said it is ironic that daily wagers are working day and night on small emoluments and their families are struggling from pillar to post for just meeting their basic necessities and most of the daily wagers are not even able to have proper education, clothes and food for their families. He appealed all the social and political organizations for coming forward in their support because their cause is quite genuine and realistic. He further said that Government should come up with a concrete policy with regard to the regularization of these PHE daily wagers.
Tanveer Hussain, president of the association while elaborating in detail the issues of PHE daily wagers said that Government should consider their demands immediately and not treat them differently from the rest of the regular employees. The Government should also release their previous salaries so that they may be able to live their life with dignity and self respect. He said if their demands are not considered before April 21, Association will consider other options including Secretariat ‘Gherao’.
Earlier, during the day the daily wagers assembled at New Bus Stand Katra and thereafter, in the shape of procession after passing through Asia Chowk, main Bus Stand, main bazaar submitted a memorandum to SDM. Then they reassembled at main Bus Stand Katra.
Anil Sharma, president All J&K Sarpanch Conference also addressed the gathering and accorded full support to their cause.
